From Microsoft News: Mozilla Is Better Than Internet Explorer

Thus spake Evil Overload
June 30, 2004 at 1:02 pm

This MSN article reiterates what most of us know, that IE is a security-hole-ridden mistake of a browser, and that Mozilla is the way to go. The fact that this article is on MSN is as funny and appropriate as the fact that Hotmail used to be run on a BSD cluster. Link

For those who think the ‘British’ area peace loving people

Thus spake Edwin
at 11:15 am

I’m a little tired of double standards in my country. I am one person, and know few people, but those I do know, are sadly very anti-’patriotic’ American (the patriotic part being added so they don’t come across as plain racists). This hate also can be found in being anti-EU, and anti-asylum seekers. I’m tired of people saying this is a lovely country (or group of countries to be exact), as those people are strangers and do not go into the little villages, they do not hear what goes on behind closed doors. Here is an example of double standards by the BBC. Link number 1 provides the link to the Swiss referee’s (who referee’d the Portugal vs England ’soccer’ game, which England lost on penalties, but not before there were some suspect refereeing decisions) website, where as link number 2 reports that the referee has had death threats, after having his email address printed in The Sun. Yes, The Sun maybe a newspaper which uses the language of a 4yr old, but it is an example of how xenophobic and violent the English are. Of course there are those like myself who distance themselves from such behaviour, but I believe there are those who distance themselves from it on the surface, but underneath are just petty thugs. For instance, the British National Party, are a fascist party, who’s manifesto states superiority for white people. Most would believe that in the UK (where I have yet to meet anyone who likes Bush), that a fascist party would get no votes. Sadly, they have won local elections.

Apologies for my rant. Just couldn’t avoid talking about the UK, and wishing we had a Michael Moore, because we need one too.

Does it make me a bad person that I like to mock those…different from me?

Perhaps I have a troll’s reincarnated soul.

FEC Fun

A watchdog group is filing charges that Oregon conservative groups and the Bush-Cheney campaign have been illegally supporting Nader’s efforts to get on the ballot:

Meanwhile in their latest attempt to smear Moore, conservatives are also filing an FEC complaint that describes F911 TV ads as political adverstising: Link

Fahrenheit 9/11 Now Playing at Beechwood Cinemas in Athens

Thus spake Evil Overload
at 12:00 pm

The following letter was received by our very own Ennui:

I know that I am sending this email to both Democrats and Republicans, but I really think that this is an important movie for Americans to see regardless of party affiliation. I believe that there is material in the movie that is worth considering, politics aside. I did not feel that the movie was anti-Republican and/or pro-Democrat but that it was critical of a certain group of businesses, their Boards, and their influence. I think one of our biggest responsibilities as Americans is to maintain the proper balance between capitalism and democracy, fiscal bottom lines and the overall good of the people. It becomes tougher and more complex in a global economy and with increasing population and diversity at home. I think this movie sheds some not so frequently seen light on this complexity.

Originally this movie was not playing in Athens. However, there has been such a flood of calls to Beechwood that the owner got the film. It begins Friday at the times listed below.

Beechwood Theater

Times are: 1:45 pm, 4:35 pm, 7:15 pm, and 9:50 pm.

The man on the phone said it will stay as long as people keep coming to see it.

Good point! Good info, as well. Everyone check it out, and support the cause of truth amid corruption. (Thanks, Julie!)

Thus spake Edwin

No links fortuntely, but today I received two junk mail emails with the subject lines ‘micheal moore shot’ and ‘micheal moore arrested’ - It highlights how Michael Moore has become the political icon without a party, and how he is fitting into the gap left by those saying ‘Britney Spears NAKED!!’ as a way to attract interest in what you are saying/selling. Is it possibly the end of the days when sex sells?

Abortions Help the Republican Party

Thus spake Evil Overload
at 7:37 am

This Wall Street Journal(!) opinion piece makes the point that if Republicans had succeeded in making abortion illegal, Gore probably would have won in 2000. There would have been far more Democratic voters, since more Democrats have abortions than Republicans, and children generally absorb the voting tendencies of their parents. Is this a roundabout logical subversion from within the ranks? I think the WSJ has been infiltrated by Discordians. Link

Christian dinosaur hunters dig for signs of Biblical dragons

Thus spake Bailywolf

Countless dinosaur bones lie buried in the rocks of South Dakota but the Christians excavating one remote cliff-face were digging not just for reptilian vertebrae but for the hand of God…

Please forgive me for being blunt, but why the hell are biblical literalist so fucking stupid?

Unless…

Perhaps God is just giving me something to laugh at. I should treat asshats like this as a blessing rather than a bane- without these wanks, the world would be slightly less entertaining.

There.

Foundation battles Right Wing Media

Thus spake Sheni
at 1:43 pm

Media Matters for America is foundation that monitors the media and seeks to fight the disinformation spread by right wing media. The founder, David Brock, used to work as a right wing media writer, creating talking points for commentators such as Rush Limbaugh. Eventually, though, his conscience got to him and he decided that he couldn’t continue creating lies to sway the mind of America. Now he and a collection of experienced media professionals act as watchdogs to call people like Rush Limbaugh and Bill Oreilly on their bullshit. Check it out. It’s pretty cool.

Mortified

Thus spake Tycho
at 8:39 am

I laughed so hard I nearly drove off the road when I heard this on NPR. It’s about Mortified, an LA reading where the subject matter is high school diaries. Skip ahead to 49:00 to hear the segment in question. There’s a website for the reading too (www.getmortified.com), with some content which isn’t as cool as the full-length reading at NPR, but the video of the song about the Challenger explosion is pretty great.

Regretfully, I didn’t keep a high school diary.

Despite a fairly small release, the movie debuted at #1. This despite the fact that several companies refused to carry the movie in their theaters. I wonder if Athens will still not get the movie, despite the fact that it’s number one.
